Source control, version control, backing up whatever you choose to call it. It&#8217;s all about keeping track of code and files overtime.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Git is a program for managing source code, while GitHub hosts a copy of that code and repository online. Meaning a file that is new or changed but has not been added to the repository. So to track it I can just click the + sign next to the index .html.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Committing files<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:30px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full is-resized\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/devclouds.io\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/01\/Screenshot_6-9.jpg\" alt=\"Staged Changes\" class=\"wp-image-3023\" width=\"677\" height=\"215\" srcset=\"https:\/\/devclouds.io\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/01\/Screenshot_6-9.jpg 903w, https:\/\/devclouds.io\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/01\/Screenshot_6-9-300x95.jpg 300w, https:\/\/devclouds.io\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/01\/Screenshot_6-9-768x244.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 677px) 100vw, 677px\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<div style=\"height:30px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>and now it is what&#8217;s referred to as stage. Now once added the letter next to the file will change to &#8220;A&#8221; which represents a new file has been added to the repository.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And the next step would be too committed and all I need to do is add a message such as first commit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And in general it will just describe whatever changes that you make. For example, we want to create a separate branch to do that by going to the command Palette, Shift command, P.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And I already have the option here to create branch but you could also just start typing in create branch.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I&#8217;ll call this new features. Typically you would need to have a separate tool to do this.
